Request a Track

The pedal steel guitar is a beautiful, distinctive instrument that compliments and enhances many musical styles. Many artists would love to have pedal steel on their recordings, but find it difficult to track down someone who plays the instrument, let alone plays it well! It was with this in mind that I decided to offer the service of online steel sessions. You can rest assured that I will invest nothing but the most effort, care, musicality and love into your recordings!

I also play the dobro, banjo and guitar and can record these tracks as well. Additionally, I have several outstanding mandolin and fiddle players on call - let me know what you need!

The rate per song is $100. This rate is only negotiable if you require a very short part to be tracked (a ten second solo for example). Please note that this rate applies to each instrument you request (i.e. if you need fiddle and pedal steel, the rate would be $200). Discount rates are offered for larger projects. Drop me a line and we can talk about it!

How it works:

  1. 1.Copy, paste and fill out the form below in an email. Send it to me along with an MP3 of your song(s) as well as a chart if you have one (not required) at david@pedalsteeltracks.net. Please include a count-off at the beginning of the song in order to match up the audio easily!

  2. 2.I’ll confirm that I received your song and let you know what the expected turn around time will be. I work very quickly!

  3. 3.I’ll send you an MP3 proof mix of the song with a rough version of the new track for you to review and then give me feedback on.

  4. 4.I’ll then record a final version of the track and send you a proof mix. If the part does not meet your expectations, I will record a revision after receiving your feedback. Additional revisions after this point cost $50 each.

  5. 5.Once you’re happy and  I’ve received payment, I will send you the track(s) in whatever high-quality audio format you’ve requested.

"Very simply put, David Kaye has the talent, taste and dedication to make any recording project shine. David is one of those rare people that not only has the insightfulness to envision a finished recording project, but also the ability to "deliver the goods" in every phase of the project as a producer, arranger and musician."

-Gordon Titcomb, pedal steel guitarist for Paul Simon, Arlo Guthrie, Kinky Freidman and many others

“David Kaye brings a professional, skillful, and instinctive touch...The pedal steel he added to my project stepped my songs up to a new level. Dave was incredibly easy to work with and was always focused on delivering a product I was happy with. His instincts made my job as writer, producer, and performer easy. His music education background set the groundwork for a performance that didn't need multiple takes, multiple tries, or my coaching...NADA.  Dave put together exactly what I imagined in a matter of days and the wav files were emailed to me right away, imported into my sessions, and sitting right in the mix.  I suggest anyone looking for pedal steel - call Dave.”

-Michael Chenkus, singer/songwriter
